Meaning Of Money: Creating Your Definition As A Business Owner
Money is an important topic for women who own their own businesses.
We all need it, we all spend it, and we all want to make it. But what is your meaning of money, beyond just what you’re doing with it day-to-day?
A while back, the meaning of money came up in various ways in my coaching business.
So, I started to reflect on my meaning of money and realized I’d never put any effort into defining it.
As I mulled things over, I realized my meaning of money was not my own. It was a combination of beliefs from others in my life.
I’d taken on meanings from my parents, co-workers, bosses, husband, and friends.
So I decided to challenge myself. I decided to take the time and put in the effort to create my meaning of money.
And now I have my own personal meaning of money:
“Money is a powerful tool that is exchanged between myself and others and allows me to freely buy anything I wish whenever I want to express who I am and what I am passionate about, now and in the future.”
– Coach Erin
But how did I get to my definition of money?
I employed my go-to method for figuring something out: explore, gather, create.
I dove into researching the meaning of money on Google to get lots of different perspectives on the subject.
As I did this, I collected bits and pieces from others’ viewpoints that resonated with me in some way.
And then I played with those ideas to personalize them and meld them together into my own definition.
And what am I going to do now that I have a personal meaning of money?
Knowing that money is a tool to express me, makes my business “why” clearer and my passion stronger.
I’m not in business to have a bank account filled with money.
Nor am I in business to become famous.
I’m in business to express myself and freely buy things that express me with the money I make.
Now I can stay focused on the things for which I DO want to exchange money.
I’ll look at what I spend money on and make more conscious decisions on what I buy.
I can consider how I might want to make changes in my money habits.
So what’s your meaning of money?
Where will you allow this question to take you?
What will you uncover?
