5 Top Reasons New Business Owners Hire A Coach
There are many reasons why new business owners hire a coach, in this article we'll dive deeper into the top 5 reasons.
Business coaches are helpful not only to new business owners who are just starting out. They’re helpful to newbies and veterans alike. They’re beneficial for owners who are shifting gears as well as for those who are trying to find their way after being in business for a while.
I’ve talked before about what a coach does and why new business owners often hire coaches. Below are five reasons why all self-employed women should hire a coach who is both on their side and by their side.
There are LOTS of people willing to tell you what they think you should do. But do you have anyone helping you figure out what it is you want to do?
The top reasons to hire a coach is that they won't tell you how to run your business. Rather, a good coach will help you sort things out and look at things from different angles. And, most importantly, they empower you to make your own decisions—they support you in doing what you think is right, not in what they think is right.
Let's Dive Deeper
Into 5 More Reasons
To Hire A Coach
None of us can see ALL of our mindset blocks.
As new business owners, we can often get stuck believing it's this "one thing" that's holding us back. We spend a lot of time and money on that "one thing" only to find we’re not moving where we want to go, even after solving that “one thing.” Then we're off spending time and money on the next “one thing." Because there’s always something we might feel stuck in, right?
Going round and round like this can cost a lot of time, money, energy, and self-doubt. Coaches can often help entrepreneurs get to the root much quicker because they can see the situation objectively. This saves you from a lot of the frustration and negativity associated with feeling like you’re on a hamster wheel of self-doubt.
Attracting 100% perfect clients is likely a myth.
It's likely you'll run into a few client challenges now and then as a new business owner. Who will you turn to when these occur? It is usually not in your best interest to go blab about it in a Facebook networking group where potential clients may be. What will they think? Will they see it as you "dogging" on your clients?
It’s also not likely that your husband or best friend will be much help with figuring out how to deal with challenging clients. This is often because they just want you to be happy AND want you to like them. So they'll side with you and quite often jump on the "oh, that's horrible" bandwagon. But that won’t really help you with your clients, will it?
Having a coach with whom you can talk things through allows you to bring both sides of the table together. It helps you have clearer communication with both your current and future clients; this might mean changing a policy and/or procedure so you can eliminate similar challenges in the future.
Changing tides calls for changing your mindset.
One thing that seems consistent when running your own business, for both new business owners and experienced ones, is that it acts much like the ocean tide. There will be high tides at times and low tides at times. In high tide we can experience feelings of excitement, which are sometimes followed by overwhelm. It can feel like we don’t have enough time in the day to get it all done. And this can lead to energetically pushing away business, even subconsciously.
Then comes the low tide. Those times where clients, customers, and projects seem slim to none. This can lead to feelings of scarcity and the fear that money will run out or that it won’t come in quickly enough.
Coaches can help you maintain a grounded mindset during both high tides and low tides.
They can also keep you motivated, keep you marketing, and show you how to use the low tides to plan better for the high tides. Having someone there to keep you accountable, to continue taking action, and to keep your mindset focused on success is priceless.
There will be times when things get messed up.
While I am all about staying positive and optimistic, I am also a realist. I realize that there are times when the plan doesn’t go as expected. While it can certainly be of value to have someone there with the answers, it is often more valuable to have someone there with a listening ear.
Someone who knows how hard you work and how disappointing the hard times can feel. Someone who doesn’t want to rescue you but rather be with you during the storm.
Sure, we all want the rescue boat to come but what about if you could have someone in the boat with you as you experience the choppiness of each wave? Someone to help you communicate clearly with the rescue team? How would it feel to not be alone during that challenging experience?
Hiring a business coach means having someone there to support you, cheer you on, and celebrate your successes as you move through each phase of your business journey.
If you’re a self-employed woman, I’d love to know what your experience with coaching has been. What are some of the biggest benefits you’ve seen in your coaching journey? Even being a coach myself, I love having the sounding board that a coach brings to my business.
